Phenomenology’s attempt to seize the meaning of legal phenomenon is an admission of failure among most legal theorists. This article aims to review the history of phenomenology of law’s reception in legal theory and the specific criticism developed by legal theorists themselves. We will consider : firstly, the false promises of German phenomenologists ; secondly, the superficiality of French phenomenology ; thirdly, the widespread discredit on phenomenology in legal world at the end of the 20th century.
