Rather than adressing collective rights from the point of view of how they may affect the principles of liberalism, the author tackles the problem of the unavoidable management of communities which group rights are bound to entail if they are to be incorporated into a liberal framework. However, such management turns out to be an inadequate response to minority demands for political emergence. On the basis of this potentially disciplining management of communities, the autors seeks to unveil both the hegemonic nature of liberalism and its obstinate refusal to acknowledge the potential for conflict inherent in he political realm.
